Foody Goody Special Laksa (4.5/5 rating)

Foody Goody laksa is one of the better known laksa stalls in Kuching, and for good reason. At RM18 for a special bowl, it is the most expensive in Kuching (we’re not counting hotel and fancy restaurant laksas, that’s a different story altogether).

Until this year I probably have had Foody Goody laksa maybe once or twice before. For whatever reason they were not memorable occasions, so I never made it a priority to go back, until my mate Bobby took me there just before Chinese New Year.

Wow! I am so glad that he did. The signature of Foody Goody laksa are the huge prawns and the soft, tender and succulent chicken strips. The sauce or “kuah” is also pretty good. It has a bit of a kick to it and it just makes everything come together almost perfectly.

The only negatives I can think of are they don’t peel the prawns completely, leaving the head and the tail attached. Not a big thing except then I have to get my hands dirty. Another minor gripe is that they don’t provide paper napkins, so be prepared and bring your own.

Just so happens that Foody Goody isn’t far away from my sons school, so after I drop him off I can be at Foody Goody before 7:30 a.m. which is when they officially start selling. However there have been a few times that they were already up and running ten minutes or so before. The good thing about coming early is that it’s quiet and finding tables isn’t a problem.

I rank this laksa highly. 4.5/5

FYI, I am told they close on Mondays.
